Stephanie Crosby: I write because I am. I am because I write. I want readers to read my stories even after I’m gone. I want to be remembered. What do I want to accomplish? Fun while I’m living. The joy of having the gift to teach and entertain readers. What I'm trying to accomplish as a writer is I wanted to reach out to people to see if I'm the only one with a bad dating life. My next YA novel is about a teen girl, but I don’t want to give away the premise. I haven’t seen it written before, and I don’t want someone else to grab it first. Normally I don’t worry about that sort of thing because we all tell stories differently, but this premise burns.

Stephanie Crosby: My story is about The Last Virgin Alive, a new adult romantic suspense novel about a girl's first year of college. Far from home at an out of state college, the family drama she tried to get away from still exists. While struggling with college life and her family's issues, she is also feeling rejected and out of place because she is still a virgin. Will she find her way or will her struggles catch up with her?

Stephanie Crosby: I started writing years ago. Then when my friends kept going on dates and I wasn't, I wrote 'The Last Virgin Alive' while watching TV instead of complaining about my dating life. I wanted to write my story to see if others can relate..

Stephanie Crosby: My novels will take readers to new places where emotions run high. The Last Virgin Alive will take readers wondering what's next for a while. If you don’t know what that is then you should read the book. It’s a fun sport. Well, most of the time. This book will give readers insight as to why bad dates happen and what could come out of it.

Review: Outlander - Audiobook, CD, Unabridged by Diana Gabaldon

It was my boss at work that shared this gem of a story with me. It literally has everything in it. Swords battles, gun battles, stampedes, love and sex, history and science fiction and the occult. It is a jammed pack epic. Check out the synopsis:

In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon. Their blissful reunion is shattered when she touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone ruins and is instantly transported to a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans . in 1743. The reader, Davina Porter does an excellent job. Doesn't quite have a handle on men's voices but it isn't distracting. 
The announcement the CD has ended is always appreciated. It's 32.5 hours on 28 CDs. It moves quick and never dull. I hear there is a version of this on Showtime. I've not watched it yet. I have started the second part to this series and I am loving Dragonfly in Amber.

Review: The Girl in the Spider's Web

Summary: she is the girl with the dragon tattoo—a genius hacker and uncompromising misfit. He is a crusading journalist whose championing of the truth often brings him to the brink of prosecution. Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker—a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it . .

Review: David Largercrantz tries to capture the writing style of Stieg Larsson. He almost gets there. I'd say most of it pick ups right where Larsson left off but it is a task not easily done and Largercrantz' version of the Millennium gang feels like an evolution of a writer's style. It's an enjoyable story that feels rushed to get to the end. An ending that doesn't satisfy as previous books had. It does give a feeling that there could be more story.
The production of the CD was done well. There are no added interludes to indicate the CD is ending.
It is an enjoyable story worth the listen.

Review: Wild West Detective by James Clay

Summary: Rance Dehner, an operative for the Lowrie Detective Agency, pursues a wanted killer to the small town of Hardin, Texas. After bringing down the killer in a gunfight, Dehner discovers the gunslick was in town to murder Leona Carson, a penniless 14-year-old girl with a baby. Dehner cannot understand why anyone would employ a gun for hire to kill Leona, and finding the answer to that question throws him into a whirlwind of violent encounters. Soon he must dodge bullets from an onslaught of professional killers, while uncovering the shameful secrets of Hardin's leading citizens.

Review: This was short and sweet. Much of the story line is telegraphed using all the old western tropes. Don't turn to this book to discovery anything new. Turn to this book to be entertained and amused. For some reason the author likes the words mumbo jumbo. It was overused but funny to me.

 The reader, Milton Bagby, does an excellent job of creating voices to help the listener differentiate between characters. The audio book was published by RadioArchives.com. They did a great job and added the cd ending interludes I love and spoke about in a previous review. Like I said, this isn't a ground breaking novel. It's short and uses well used western tropes to convey an unoriginal story. That doesn't make it a bad book. Think of it as an old friend that tells you an old story you never tire of hearing.

Review: The Reliquary by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

Summary: Hidden deep beneath Manhattan lies a warren of tunnels, sewers, and galleries, mostly forgotten by those who walk the streets above. There lies the ultimate secret of the Museum Beat. When two grotesquely deformed skeletons are found deep in the mud off the Manhattan shoreline, museum curator Margo Green is called in to aid the investigation. Margo must once again team up with police lieutenant D'Agosta and FBI agent Pendergast, as well as the brilliant Dr. Frock, to try and solve the puzzle. The trail soon leads deep underground, where they will face the awakening of a slumbering nightmare... in Reliquary, from bestselling coauthors Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

Review: This is my third book I've read by Preston and Child and I liked this way more than The Ice Limit. It might equal Two Graves as an intense adventure. This also introduces audiences to Pendergast for the second time. The Relic is the predecessor to this book. It was not necessary to have read The Relic. The gaps were nicely filled in for me and had no trouble following the story. The story is fast paced and very interesting.

The story comes from multiple characters that intertwine evenly and fairly. Though it is marketed as a Pendergast story, he is not the star nor the hero that saves everyone.

Dick Hill is the reader and he always does a wonderful job. I was originally drawn by the authors and to see that Dick Hill read it, was the icing on the cake.

Brilliance Audio is the publisher and they always do an excellent job. My favorite little tidbit is that they play a little interlude at the end of the CD to tell you the disc is finished. It's helpful to me and I really like it.

I can recommend this with out reservations. Pick it up.

Review: The Ice Limit by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

This is a fun story but extremely predictable as far as I'm concerned. There is a lot of science in this book. A lot. But the scientists are dumb because I new before they did what was coming at every turn/ That  makes it less enjoyable than hoped. Also the ending is a real downer. I hear there are indirect sequels to the story that I have yet to hear. I liked the premise and I am hopeful that that the entire story arc is more satisfying than the this story on it's own.

Ruth Bleakley-Thiessen: I'm an author, also a coach and an artist. I've just published 2 non-fiction ebooks - one for Women:Woman Rise and Shine - a simple path for women who want to be themselves and Flown the Coop - a guide to dealing with transition when the kids leave home.

TDIS: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?
RBT: I have put all of my own experience and that of 12 years of coaching into these two books, offering a set-out guide to look at what comes up for you and how to deal with it. My own 3 kids left home within 9 months and I realized that there weren't too many books on the market to go to for some help. It's a huge transition people go through. I interviewed many parents and have given conclusions from these interviews. I want to give this to others who were in the same position as I was. The book for women takes a look at the life of a woman, especially from my perspective, as I grew up in a male dominated world. I had to find out for myself what it takes to be a woman, and I have been working with women for 12 years now, specializing in feminine problems. It's not that we have to look for something, we have to peel back the things keeping us back from being our real selves. This book shows us the importance of having other women in our lives, as it used to be within a women's circle.

TDIS: When is your book available?
RBT: These books have been available since 1st March 2016. I'm writing another one for women about how they can tidy up their lives, as soon as I have the two translated into German and published. I declared last year as the year of writing for me, and managed the two books I most wanted to write. I thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Review: Extinction Evolution (The Extinction Cycle Book 4) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

I picked this up without knowledge of the books prior to its release. It's the fourth in series. What drew me immediately was the reader, Bronson Pinchot. Maybe you don't know Bronson like I know Bronson. He has a very special place in my heart as an actor from a TV series called Perfect Strangers 

I loved that show. But you are wondering about the audiobook. It is well read by Bronson. It is well written by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. The story of a world devastated by a virus outbreak where an elite fighting force works to gather as much data on a new species formed by the virus in order to kill the variants and take back earth as the dominate species.

I enjoyed the book despite not having read (heard) the other audiobooks. I would love to see how this series ends. The final book volume was released in February and the audiobook will be available April 19th.

I hope you pick this gem up. I love finding a new author what can write good stories and has other books available to gobble up. Look forward to more reviews for this author.

Review of Slimy Underbelly (Dan Shamble Zombie P. I.) by Kevin J. Anderson @THEKJA

Review: I came across this little gem while I was perusing the audio book collection at my local library. The name caught my eye and so I had to turn it over and read the summary and I was hooked. It has everything I enjoy; zombies, humor, crime and detectives. I have a 40 minute commute to work and I need entertainment. Anderson's book was exactly what I needed. I was laughing through out the story. The depth of curious and odd characters was just awesome. I was swapping cds as fast I as I could, eager to hear what happened next. And a lot does happen, three major stories are juggled with ease and happily come together to tie the whole book with a big bright happy bow. I have not read/listened to a book as funny as Slimy Underbelly. 
I must add that Phil Gigante read this book beautifully. Many can read a book out loud but Gigante performs and tells a story. He gives every character their own voice and identity. It made this book ever more enjoyable.  
I highly recommend picking this book up. It is extremely entertaining and immensely fun.

Kate L. Mary: I’m a stay-at-home mom of four and an Air Force wife. I grew up in a small town just north of Dayton, Ohio where I met my husband at the age of twelve. Ten years later, we got married, and since then we’ve lived in Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, and California. We currently live in Oklahoma.

As a writer, I like to create new realities and worlds. I enjoy any post-apocalyptic story, especially if zombies are involved, but there needs to be a romantic twist to give the story hope. When I write I prefer nerdy or non-traditional heroes who can make you laugh to hunky pieces of man-meat. Characters with baggage are especially enjoyable, because there’s so much you can do with them.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer? What is your latest story about?

Kate L. Mary: Mainly, I want to get my stories out there to as many people as possible. I have two books out now, but they are both part of a series, and a have a couple more I’d like to get out soon.

My most recent release is Broken World, the first book in my post-apocalyptic zombie series. Think of it as, The Walking Dead meets The Stand.

Kate L. Mary: Broken World and the sequel, Shattered World, is out now. I have the third book, Mad World, done as well and plan to release that in January 2015. I wanted to release them close together since they do end with cliffhangers.

Kate L. Mary: I wrote on and off when I was younger, but college and marriage and kids made it tough. When we moved to California in 2011. I found myself with a lot of free time. My husband was gone a lot, we lived really far from our friends and family. Suddenly, all those stories I’d had tucked away came out. Since then, I haven’t stopped. I've written a lot, but most of the early stuff still needs a lot of work. It’s a skill that gets better with practice, and the most recent things I've written look nothing like the first couple books.

The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories? What sets them apart from the rest?
Kate L. Mary: My book, Collision, is a new adult romantic mystery. New adult is popular right now, but what sets my book apart from most of what’s out there is the fact that it has a plot other than just romance. There is romance, but it’s a sweet story, not sexy/steamy like the majority of the books available. My male character is also different than most of the men portrayed in these books. He’s a nice guy. I don’t know where this idea came from that in order to be desirable characters the men have to be jerks, but those are not the kind of characters I write.

Broken World is unique in the zombie world because it starts before the dead come back, giving you lots of time to get to know the characters. This book is about so much more than zombie. It’s about family and survival and love and learning to trust. I like to focus on the people in an apocalyptic situation. Also, I believe this is a book that would be enjoyable even for people who don’t necessarily love the genre. Check out the reviews on Goodreads and you’ll find a couple people who have read and loved it, but don’t like zombies. It’s because the focus on this book isn’t blood and gore (there is some of that though).

The Digital Ink Spot caught up with author, Karen V.Williams. She says she didn’t have the time to sit down and write full time until she was a grandmother. After her husband’s death four years ago, she needed to work. Not because he left her penniless, but because it filled her days and because it was what she’d wanted to do all her life. For nearly 30 years, she had been researching and working part time on the story of her ancestor, Mary Bliss Parsons, who was tried for witchcraft in 1675, 17 years before the Salem Witch Trials. “My Enemy’s Tears: The Witch of Northampton” was published in 2011. Since then she has written a mixed genre book (literary fiction/mystery) which is now in the hands of her agent.

Karen V.Williams: Can’t say I’m trying to accomplish anything with writing other than telling the stories I want to tell. My upcoming book is titled “The House on Seventh Street.” I set it in my home town of Grand Junction, CO where my family settled in the very early 20th century. It’s a story about going home again—something  you aren’t supposed to be able to do—and learning that you really didn’t know your parents and grandparents at all, that they weren’t who you thought they were when you were a child, that they had secrets and some of these would always remain a mystery.
