Review - Judas by Roy Bright @Brightylad

After 2000 years walking the earth, Judas Iscariot, has seen it all, and more horror than he would care to. His punishment by God, for the betrayal of his son Jesus Christ, has him walk the earth for eternity, a broken man, unable to die. Yet, despite immortality, he has been bound by rules; never allowed to find love, raise a family, or make use of any wealth he might acquire. Throughout his sentence, God has given him tasks, ones he could not refuse, where his incredible skill with a sword is put to use against wayward demons, and the forces of evil. And at the end of 2012, a messenger appears, presenting him with his greatest and most important mission: For three days, he must protect six-year-old Charlotte Hope, as she approaches her seventh birthday. She is 'The Light', whose purpose is to shepherd humankind away from its hedonistic, violent and unruly ways. However, the forces of Hell also wish to acquire the child for their master, Lucifer, so that he may drain her light and become unchallenged in his crusade to dominate the kingdom of man. With the aid of the unlikely pairing of police detective Gary Cross and prostitute Abi Colter, can Judas protect Charlotte so that she may save all humankind and in turn, release him from the curse, thus allowing his entry into the White Kingdom, or will Lucifer succeed and bring forth the Apocalypse?

Review -  This book was a joy to read. Fast action and a well paced story. Judas is a great anti-hero if there ever was one and I look forward to the next book. Charlotte's character grows stronger with every new obstacle as she become aware of more and more what power she possesses.
The story of redemption and sacrifice is peppered through out this book. Some times it gets hard to swallow but that's life.
This hero's tale is well down and extremely enjoyable. The theology gets off track in some places but it fits the narrative that Judas is kept immortal for 2000 years. That fact would change the nature of God. So don't bring this book to the seminary just to the couch or lounge chair, read it and enjoy.

Zinovy's Journey by Ginny Jaques @GinnyJaques

Free for a Limited Time, Click Now on the Cover Photo.

Zinovy's Journey is a unique and richly woven futuristic action adventure story about a man's journey through a new earth toward the discovery of a meaningful relationship with God.

Zinovy Kozlov has spent twenty-three years climbing the ladder of Russian military success one rung at a time. An Air Force pilot, FSB veteran, and now a cosmonaut on the Global Regime's International Space Station, he should be at the peak of his career. But Zinovy has enemies whose political power extends into space, and they are determined to kill him. Then the earth is destroyed in a nuclear holocaust and everything changes.

In Zinovy's Journey, suspenseful action and lively dialogue are carefully balanced to keep the reader turning pages, intrigued by the conflicts--both external and internal--and challenged by the underlying philosophical and religious ideas debated by the characters as they walk from Cape Canaveral toward a mythical city located somewhere in the center of the earth. The journey is a long one, and dangerous. Zinovy has few physical weapons to protect himself and his companions from the threat of evil men in this world where all human technology has been destroyed. And he has no spiritual weapons to protect his fortressed heart from the onslaught of love that he begins to realize has followed him from his orphaned childhood to the present moment. By the end of the journey, Zinovy Efimovich Kozlov has lost the battle with his Creator and won a prize more wonderful than he dreamed possible. He has discovered the meaning of his name. Zinovy means "Walking with God."

Multiple sub-plots including an engaging mystery and a gently developing romance deepen this story. A touch of humor lightens it. Interaction among a wide range of characters, both mortal and immortal, introduces an element of magic realism to the storyline as well. Zinovy's Journey is Christian fiction at its best.

Review - After the Cure by Deirdre Gould @scullerytales

Eight years ago the December Plague swept through the human population of earth. The Infected were driven mad by the disease, becoming violent and cannibalistic, killing even those closest to them without hesitation. Six years ago, the tiny surviving community of Immune humans found a cure, and the Infected began to wake up and realize what they'd done. And what had been done to them. Over time, society began to rebuild itself. Now it is ready to judge those responsible for the Plague. Nella Rider, the court psychologist and Frank Courtlen a defense attorney are trying to establish the truth. But more depends on it than they know. They race to find the answers they need before the fragile remains of humanity vanish for good.

Review - I've read a lot of zombie novels and I can say this one is really different for a zombie story. It's more like a mystery adventure and that's can make it even more exciting if every moan you hear could be your last.

There is a romance thrown into the mix and for not going into graphic detail, the reader definitely know what time it is. It's sexy time. Gould uses excellent literary skills to bring the reader intimately close to the action yet in the end, give the characters privacy and preserve their modestly. It was hot talk but in an intelligent way.

The zombie stuff is the same old, same old but the twist regarding the cured having to deal with what they had done is solid horror. The mystery is truly a mystery and having a rush to complete the puzzle in time, gets my heart pumping. This is only book one but ends well enough for me not having to continue on in the series.

Check it out.

The Last Five Days by Paul Seiple @pseiple

"Things Like That Never Happen Here."

The townsfolk of Black Dog wrapped themselves in that sentiment like a security blanket. Being part of the tight-knit, small town shielded them from the horror that plagued the evening news.

And then something happened. It happened fast.

Two fishermen became ill after a day on Black Dog Lake. The mysterious virus that had an almost supernatural way of evolving began to spread. People got sick. People got violent. And then they died.

But the hunger that ravaged their bodies lived on.

The infected were considered the lucky ones. The cloudy film covering their eyes blinded them from the death of mankind. The survivors witnessed everything—the true value of life and the evil that lurked deep in the human soul. Each day the world darkened.

On the bright side, it would all be over in five days.

The Phantom of the Earth: An Epic Sci-Fi Saga, Books 1-5 by Raeden Zen @raedenzen

Free for a Limited Time.

4.1 Stars

Herbert's Dune meets Banks' The Player of Games in The Phantom of the Earth, a spellbinding science fiction epic set deep underground after the fall of civilization on Earth's surface.

Here are the five thought-provoking postapocalyptic stories that lovers of science fiction can't stop talking about, gathered together in one volume for the first time. The futuristic theories, conspiracies, political maneuvering, and characters within these visionary tales will stay with you long after you finish.

In the Great Commonwealth of Beimeni, a subterranean civilization in North America, expansion long ago gave way to peace and prosperity in the face of the history's most devastating plague. Immortality is the reward for service and loyalty in Beimeni, a place where the physical blends with the metaphysical and power consolidates in the hands of those with a genetic edge. The fissures first spread slowly, then swiftly, until now the Great Commonwealth finds itself on the brink of economic devastation, challenged by forces from within that know its secrets and its crimes.

At the center of the conflict lie the Selendias of Piscator, founders of the resistance with an uncanny connection to the zeropoint field; and the Barão Strike Team, three researchers tasked with finding a cure to the Reassortment Strain, the plague that nearly wiped humanity from the Earth. Traveling from the uninhabitable but pristine surface to the habitable but inhospitable underground, this is a story about dedication to dreams, battle for survival, discovery and connection, song and celebration, undoing past misdeeds, and sacrifice for the greater good.

Review: Extinction Evolution (The Extinction Cycle Book 4) by Nicholas Sansbury Smith

I picked this up without knowledge of the books prior to its release. It's the fourth in series. What drew me immediately was the reader, Bronson Pinchot. Maybe you don't know Bronson like I know Bronson. He has a very special place in my heart as an actor from a TV series called Perfect Strangers

I loved that show. But you are wondering about the audiobook. It is well read by Bronson. It is well written by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. The story of a world devastated by a virus outbreak where an elite fighting force works to gather as much data on a new species formed by the virus in order to kill the variants and take back earth as the dominate species.

I enjoyed the book despite not having read (heard) the other audiobooks. I would love to see how this series ends. The final book volume was released in February and the audiobook will be available April 19th.

I hope you pick this gem up. I love finding a new author what can write good stories and has other books available to gobble up. Look forward to more reviews for this author.
