Ghost In The Bedroom by M.A. Harper

#romance #paranormal They’ve been married less than a year and already there’s someone else--at least it’s starting to seem that way. First Hendrix the cat’s developed a new trick, but how does a flesh-and-blood feline walk through walls? Maybe with help from his best friend on The Other Side? Then there was that dude Phil saw upstairs Thanksgiving Day. Only nobody was there. But the odd thing was that “nobody” looked exactly like Michelle’s dead husband, Cajun musician A.P. Savoie. Her really really handsome and much-missed dead husband. Who died all too suddenly.

Interview with Karen V.Williams @MaryBlissParson

The Digital Ink Spot caught up with author, Karen V.Williams. She says she didn’t have the time to sit down and write full time until she was a grandmother. After her husband’s death four years ago, she needed to work. Not because he left her penniless, but because it filled her days and because it was what she’d wanted to do all her life. For nearly 30 years, she had been researching and working part time on the story of her ancestor, Mary Bliss Parsons, who was tried for witchcraft in 1675, 17 years before the Salem Witch Trials. “My Enemy’s Tears: The Witch of Northampton” was published in 2011. Since then she has written a mixed genre book (literary fiction/mystery) which is now in the hands of her agent.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer? What is your latest story about?
Karen V.Williams: Can’t say I’m trying to accomplish anything with writing other than telling the stories I want to tell. My upcoming book is titled “The House on Seventh Street.” I set it in my home town of Grand Junction, CO where my family settled in the very early 20th century. It’s a story about going home again—something  you aren’t supposed to be able to do—and learning that you really didn’t know your parents and grandparents at all, that they weren’t who you thought they were when you were a child, that they had secrets and some of these would always remain a mystery.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available?
Karen V.Williams: I wish I knew when “The House on Seventh Street” will be available. It depends upon the publisher.

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you?
Karen V.Williams: My personal website www.karenvorbeckwilliams.com, my book website: www.myenemystears.com, my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/karenvorbeckwilliams?ref=hl  I am also on Goodreads and Google and Twitter.

The Digital Ink Spot:  What sets your stories apart from the rest?
Karen V.Williams: Readers who like well-researched historical fiction written by a writer in love with her characters and her story will likely notice these things about my books. I can’t say what sets my books apart from the rest. There are so many wonderful books out there that I can’t even imagine how anyone decides which one to pick up.

Although he has been involved in serious criminal law work over the years as a prosecutor, a defense attorney, and a law professor, Professor Birdsong knows that it is good to stayed grounded. This means often taking time to look at the many funny and weird criminal law stories that crop up around the United States and the world. He believes we should not always take criminal law so seriously and instead, just have a good laugh at some of the silly foibles of dumb criminals and their crimes. That is why several years ago he began to collect and edit from the wire services and news the type of weird and funny criminal law stories that appear in his series.

Interview with Jeffrey F. Barken

The Digital Ink Spot: Please introduce youself to the readers.

My name is Jeffrey F. Barken. I am the author of This Year in Jerusalem, a collection of short stories loosely based on my experiences as a kibbutz volunteer in Israel 2009-2010. During the time I was abroad, I lived, worked, and traveled throughout the middle east. My fiction re-imagines the country and the characters I met in a series of interconnected stories that leave readers feeling as though they have read a full length novel. Each story is beautifully illustrated by Irish artist,  Diana Muller. There is a short Author's note at the back of the book explaining how we met.

I first published This Year in Jerusalem in May of 2013 and have been on book tour ever since, promoting the collection. Last summer I traveled first to Scotland, Ireland and Germany where Diana and I teamed up for a book signing event. Later I traveled to Israel where I spent 11 months riding the trains daily, traveling up and down the country, introducing myself to strangers in Hebrew and English, and peddling books. The Tour was a great success. The book sold over 1,000 copies and an additional 100 copies were purchased by the Norman Tel Aviv Hotel, a boutique establishment that will feature the book in all of its guest rooms. The stories do not advance any political ideology or arrogant propaganda. On the contrary they offer a refreshing outsider's perspective of Israeli culture and the conflicts that plague the region. It's the perfect read for first time visitors!

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer? What is your latest story about?

Jeffrey F. Barken: In addition to writing fiction I am also the founder and chief editor of Monologging.org, an online literary arts magazine that connects writers with artists around the world encouraging collaborative multimedia creation. The publication also provides weekly arts-related reporting. My ambition as a writer and a publicist is to assist in building creative networks that can provide writers and artists with quality feedback, and to promote artistic experimentation. In my own fiction, I try to tell the truth about our world, chronicling emotions and events through the eyes of lovable though often deeply faulted characters. My current work in progress is a novel entitled "All the Lonely Boys in New York," it tells the story of a failed terrorist attack in New York City, and reflects on the early days of the credit crisis, when banks and companies were failing daily...

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available or when did you start writing?
Jeffrey F. Barken: I wrote "All the Lonely Boys in New York" at the same time that I was writing "This Year in Jerusalem," The two books share some of the main characters, and offer a continuation of different plot lines... Diana and I are again working together to design an illustrated book that will likely debut spring or summer of 2015.

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you?
Jeffrey F. Barken: Readers can read reviews and personal posts about my writing at jeffreybarken.comI am on Facebook as well as twitter.

Explore Monologging.org today to see how I'm creating an engaged artistic community and to explore great multimedia creations!

The Digital Ink Spot: What sets your stories apart from the rest?

Jeffrey F. Barken: As a writer, I've always subscribed to Hemingway's time-honored advice; write truly, based on what you know, and do your best work, given the time and the circumstances... My collection of short stories, This Year in Jerusalem, was inspired by my experiences abroad and therefore came from a very personal place. I think readers appreciate the adventure spirit that shines throughout the book as strange and unexpected encounters with eccentric character lead the narrator to make emotional confessions and detailed musings. The fact that all the stories connect adds another element, allowing readers to interact with each story in intriguing ways. Likewise, working with Diana to illustrate the book was an amazing and extremely fulfilling experience. She has never traveled to Israel, yet her pictures, based on my words, capture what I had witnessed abroad exactly. I take her amazing effort to portray my scenes as confirmation that I've done my work well, telling a story truthfully and honestly. Since publishing TYIJ, I've continued to grow as a writer and am taking new risks. I now feel confident imagining characters who exist wholly outside my personal experiences and am throwing them into the mix with other more rational personalities. I'm experimenting writing thrillers with fantastical elements and look forward to bringing out my first novel in the coming year!

Interview with Marc D Brown @WordsofMDBrown

The Digital Ink Spot: Please introduce yourself to the readers.
Marc D Brown: I'm Marc or Marc D Brown from York in the UK, married to an amazing lady and we have two Huskies who are basically our children and our lives happily revolve around them, haha.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?
Marc D Brown: My main mission in life is to be a recognized poet, when I say "recognized" I don't mean that I'm in it for the fame and fortune, I just want people to know of my work. Obviously if the fortune came a long, I wouldn"t complain.....I do need a new car and we're saving for a house, so yeah the fortune would help. I want to change peoples minds on what poetry is, it can be done differently nowadays, my style has been described as "unique" by a twitter follower recently, I believe it is! It's poetry for everyone, I'm a normal guy so I write about normal things that go on in my head; yes, sometimes it may come across as strange but it will pull you in. There's subjects about life, love, death, work, regret etc. Things we all feel as human beings put down in an easy to read way. I guarantee you will find a poem you like.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available?
Marc D Brown: I currently have 3 ebooks published on Amazons Kindle platform, two of which are poetry collections Words of Marc D Brown & 20Seven. My third book is a short horror/gore story, my first real attempt at story writing. If you liked American Psycho, then the chances are you will probably like this.
Currently I'm compiling a third collection of poetry which I'm pretty excited about; I had a year off from writing, whenever I put pen to paper I felt everything I wrote was crap and just too forced...it wasn't right so I stopped trying. Nearly a year later I clearly found my muse as I've been writing a few pieces each week (when I was younger I wrote a few pieces each day...I obviously had a lot more to say back then, haha)

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you?
Marc D Brown: If you ever want to get in touch or just get an idea whats going on with me, you can use the following.
Twitter - @WordsofMDBrown
The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories. What sets them apart from the rest?
Marc D Brown: I believe people should read my poetry firstly just to give it a chance, try something new. Secondly as I previously mentioned you WILL find something you like in my books, something you can relate to. If you do ever check my books out, Thank you in advance!

Interview with Justin Bienvenue @JustinBienvenue

The Digital Ink Spot: Please share with the reader who you are.
Justin Bienvenue: I am Justin Bienvenue and as a writer I am an author an poet. Some days I write poetry and other days I write short stories it really depends on the type of writing mood I’m in. On a really good day I could write both. My inspiration is endless coming from what I see outside and inside around me or what I watch on television and take in, again my inspiration for poems and stories is truly endless and could come from anywhere or anything. As a writer I like to be simple, meaning I write in a way to which the reader can understand, enjoy and even visualize what they are reading without getting confused. I really started writing for a career a few years back when I decided to write a book upon a lazy day in which I felt there was nothing I could do to get myself-esteem going again. My writing roots in the sense of poetry date back to my freshman year of high school in which I frequently wrote poetry on and off. I have a background in creative writing and write in all kinds of forms of poetry such as free verse, rhyme and prose just to name a few. The writer in me is a lot more eager and determined then regular me, every now and then my writer part tries to encourage regular me to get a jump start. When my mind is completely set and I have lots of thoughts running there is no telling what creation my imagination can come up with.

The Digital Ink Spot:  What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?
Justin Bienvenue: I am trying to accomplish success, I am trying to become an establish and well respected writer. For people to read one of my books and enjoy it so much that they want to read more of my works. As a writer I want to give readers a truly enjoyable story or poem and open up their horizons to my style. I want to accomplish recognition as not only an author but as a poet, since poetry tends to go less noticeable these days I want to try and open peoples eye’s to it and give them a new found appreciation for it.
My latest book is just that, poetry. It is called Like A Box of Chocolates and it is a book of 40 poems within many different genres. For those who like horror, science fiction, mystery, fantasy, romance, bizarre, whatever it may be there is a poem for everyone to enjoy. I came up with the idea after making up poem titles to which I would have friends vote for on Facebook after a while I had enough poems to the point that I decided that a book should be made. I like to consider this book a buffet of poetry because there’s all different types of genres to read and you can read a few and then go back in for more.

The Digital Ink Spot:  When is your newest book available?
Justin Bienvenue: My book is currently available now on Amazon and Createspace. I started writing the poems around two years ago and it wasn’t until back in January that I started putting them together into a book.

The Digital Ink Spot:  Where can readers find you?
Justin Bienvenue: You can find me and my works at several places. Website: http://jbienvenue.webs.com/
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ThePlasmaticWriter Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/JustinBienvenue or @JustinBienvenue Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4572127.Justin_Bienvenue Books: Like A Box of Chocolates: http://smarturl.it/LABoC Createspace: https://www.createspace.com/4761325 A Bloody Bloody Mess in the Wild Wild West: http://smarturl.it/ABBMITW3 CreateSpace: https://www.createspace.com/4241547 The Macabre Masterpiece: Poems of Horror and Gore: http://smarturl.it/MacabreMasterpiece http://smarturl.it/Macabre Createspace: http://www.createspace.com/4561986

The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories. What sets them apart from the rest?
Justin Bienvenue: People should read my works because they are unique and original. They are my spins on poetry and stories. Chances are when you read my work your reading something you’ve either never read before or you usually don’t read on a regular basis. I try to separate myself from others when it comes to writing and I like to think I have done just that. So the best thing I can say is if you like originality and creativity then you’ll like my works. http://jbienvenue.webs.com/ 'Writing for enjoyment, employment and to remain sane'

Interview with Deanna Kahler @DeannaKahler

The Digital Ink Spot: Who is Deanna Kahler?
Deanna Kahler: I'm a proud mom and an accomplished writer. I was born and raised in the Detroit, Mich., area. My love of writing began as a young child, and I was often found writing poems, short stories and plays. I've always been creative, sensitive and highly motivated. I hold a bachelor's degree in Communication Arts from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., where I graduated with departmental honors. I've worked professionally as both a writer and editor, and my work has been published in numerous corporate newsletters and magazines across the country. I've written three books so far. My memoir, From Pain to Parenthood, was named a finalist in the 2014 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the Parenting/Family category. I'm quite proud of this accomplishment and the positive difference this book has made on the lives of those who have suffered miscarriages and are considering adoption. When I'm not writing, I love spending time with my family and especially enjoy being outside.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer? What is your latest story about?
Deanna Kahler: My goal is always to touch lives and inspire others. I write to make a difference in the world. My latest book, A Rare Gem, is a children's story about self-worth. The message to kids is that it's okay to be different and that every person is unique and special. The story follows Princess Towonga, a very tiny girl who is the size of a Barbie doll. She often feels left out because she can't participate in the same activities as her friends. Then one day the princess must perform a special task that only she can do. That's when she realizes that she doesn't need to be like anyone else.
I also have an adult fiction paranormal book, Echoes of Paradise, which was released earlier this year. Echoes of Paradise is about the afterlife and the power of love. The main character, Celeste, loses a former love who was also her soulmate. She then starts noticing many strange coincidences that seem to be connected to him. She wonders if his spirit is reaching out to her and embarks on an incredible journey of self-discovery and spiritual awakening. Anyone who has lost a loved one will relate to her grief and emotions. And all readers will be inspired by the touching love story and beautiful imagery.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available?
Deanna Kahler: A Rare Gem is available now on Amazon.com. The paperback was released on May 17, 2014, and the Kindle version was available a few weeks prior to that. I'm also now working on Visions of Mortality, which will be a stand-alone sequel to Echoes of Paradise. The book will feature a few of the original characters and also have a paranormal theme, but it isn't necessary to read the first book in order to enjoy it.

The Digital Ink Spot:Where can readers find you, (social media, readings, blogs, your books)?
Deanna Kahler: Readers can find me in various places. All three of my books: A Rare Gem, Echoes of Paradise and From Pain to Parenthood: A Journey Through Miscarriage to Adoption are available on Amazon.com. I also have a web site and Facebook fan pages. And, I'm on Twitter, Google + and GoodReads. I love to hear from readers and always appreciate feedback! The Digital Ink Spot: What sets your stories apart from the rest?
Deanna Kahler: My stories come from my heart and soul. My writing is genuine, and I use my life experiences to craft an imaginative yet realistic story. When readers pick up one of my books, they can expect to not only be entertained but also get a glimpse of who I am. Like I said, I strive to make a difference in the world, so each of my books includes a life challenge or struggle that the main character must work to overcome. For this reason, my stories are universal in appeal and can be enjoyed by everyone.

Review: Tankbread by Paul Mannering

Tankbread

Summary:  Ten years ago humanity lost the war for survival.

Now intelligent zombies rule the world. Feeding the undead of a steady diet of cloned people called Tankbread, the survivors live in a dangerous world on the brink of final extinction.

One outlaw courier must go on a journey through the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Australia. Fighting his way into the very heart of the apocalypse in the desperate search for a way to save the last humans and destroy the undead threat.

His only companion is a girl with an extraordinary secret. Her name is Else, and she's Tankbread.

http://tankbread.blogspot.co.nz/
www.brokensea.com

Review: I've been waiting to read this for awhile and I was not disappointed. It may be a zombie novel but it plays out as a cat and mouse chase story. The cat being a horde of ravenous intelligent zombies, of course. This is a great story of redemption, heroics and what it means to be human, all the elements of a great novel. I enjoyed the characters and every scene of survivors and their attempts at creating a pocket of civilization in the midst of chaos.
Else was awesome. A cross between Leeloo from 5th Element and River Tam from Firefly. She was a perfect mix of innocence and warrior. It was great to see her grow as an individual. I am excited that her adventure does continue in the sequel.
I am happy to report that this book did not disappoint. It is a well executed adventure in the outback.

Review: Promise You Won't Tell by John Locke @DonovanCreed

Promise You Won't Tell?

Summary: “I think something might have happened to me Saturday night. Something bad.”

Private Investigator Dani Ripper’s client list is nuttier than the Looney Tunes conga line, but she diligently solves one crazy case after another, waiting for a game-changer.

Enter Riley Freeman, 17-year-old honor student.

Saturday afternoon Riley quietly placed a little strawberry sticker on her private area and pretended it was a tattoo. She didn’t tell anyone about it. That night she went to a slumber party that featured drinking and boys. Riley fell asleep, woke up the next day with no reason to think anything happened…

…Until Monday, at school, when a classmate called her Strawberry.

Coincidence or crime? Dani agrees to investigate. And the roller coaster ride begins.

http://www.donovancreed.com/

Review: From the very beginning, John Locke delivers this story quick and precise. It is a rocket read from start to finish. Locke does a wonderful job of delivering a mystery and then slowly unfolding it to reveal the pearl of truth at the end. The character dialogue moves the story along and gives insight into each character's personality and motivation.
The main character, Dani Ripper's staff is a odd, wacky and unusually perfect for this line of work of private investigating. They are all fun to meet and watch as they interact with Dani in the workplace. Locke has done an excellent job of developing each character in this story.
This is a great detective story with great characters.

With so much experience it seems only natural for you to write down what you know and share your knowledge. How long have you done just that?
Ignatius Fernandez: I have tried my hand at writing over the last nineteen years, during which time I have published seven books and over sixty articles in professional and religious magazines and sites. Small output, I admit.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?
Ignatius Fernandez: The only reason I write is that readers pause and ponder. A kind of crusade - if that is the right word. I share my thoughts on spirituality, religion, relationships, parenting, and related subjects. Only nonfiction. I do read or write fiction. The latest book is on Virtue and Value-based Parenting - The Child Is father of the Man, Tips and Techniques for Wise Parenting. The feedback has been encouraging.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available?
Ignatius Fernandez: The Child is Father of the Man, is available at Amazon and Kindle. I started writing it about three years ago.

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you on the web?
Ignatius Fernandez: My website is the starting point: http://www.ignatiusfernandez.com I also host a blog by the same title: http://thechildisfatheroftheman.blogspot.in/ Besides, I am on Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter.

The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories. What sets them apart from the rest?
Ignatius Fernandez: I do not write to impress, but express my thoughts on the subject - direct and simple. My style tries to be chatty and warm; trying gently to persuade readers to think. At all times, I keep the reader in mind, so that I relate to her/him. Why should they read my books? Because I address their concerns, in a simple and clear fashion, so that all types of readers can understand the content and connect with it. When a few do that, I am rewarded. Thank you for your time. God bless.

Interview with Kevin Chapman @lollujo

The Digital Ink Spot would like to welcome Kevin Chapman and allow him to introduce himself to you.
Kevin Chapman: I spent the early part of my twenties holding down a sensible grown up job as a financial advisor and living a sensible grown up life with my wife and kids. I left my job when the financial crisis happened in 2008 and shortly after, got divorced, became a minor internet celebrity, moved my new partner in, got a first class honours degree in computing, became a teacher and started writing books about it all. I claim it’s not an early onset mid-life crisis. I live in Peterborough, UK with my fiancee, three kids, a cat and a dog called Dave.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?
Kevin Chapman: I'm trying to entertain people. I've hosted a number of successful comedy podcasts over the last four years, and did my first live comedy show last year, with another one coming up in July this year. Writing seemed like the natural extension to all of that. Obviously I wouldn't ever suggest that I'm not interested in making from it, of course that'd be lovely, but I'm just about break even after four years of podcasting and blogging, so as long as I don't end up losing my house because of writing books, I'll consider that a job well done...

The Digital Ink Spot: Tell us about your latest book?
Kevin Chapman:  My first book, Best Thing From, is an irreverent memoir / Q&A with my co-host from the podcasts and comedy partner Richard Bass, in which we answer questions sent in via Twitter on topics also selected by our followers. The first chapter is about crisps (or potato chips I guess to American readers), and we somehow get 12 pages out of that, which should set the tone for the rest of the book nicely.
We're currently writing the follow up to that book, and I've also got a couple of solo projects on the go, one of which might see the light of day before the end of the summer, but it's too early to go into too much detail about it at this stage.

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you, (social media, readings, blogs, your books)?
Kevin Chapman: I'm all over the internet! The best place to find me is on Twitter @lollujo, or via personal website kevinchapman.co.uk. If you're desperate to visit every section of the internet I inhabit, all the details can be found on my about page. Away from the internet I'm a bit harder to find, but I am doing a live comedy show and book signing in my home town of Peterborough, UK, on 19th July. Full details are available at maturegamerpodcast.com.

The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories. What sets them apart from the rest?
Kevin Chapman: We've been described as two of the funniest people on the internet, and both the book and podcasts have received overwhelmingly positive reviews. If you're into rambling anecdotes about watching Superman as a child and being overcharged at theme parks, then our book is definitely for you.

Interview with Michelle Weidenbenner @MWeidenbenner1

Who is a tennis junkie, coffee-addict, blogger and psycho writer who gets crabby when life gets in the way of her word-count? Michelle Weidenbenner. The Digital Ink Spot asked Michelle Weidenbenner what it is she is trying to accomplish as a writer.

Michelle Weidenbenner: I write because I am. I am because I write. I want readers to read my stories even after I’m gone. I want to be remembered. What do I want to accomplish? Fun while I’m living. The joy of having the gift to teach and entertain readers.
My next YA novel is about a teen girl, but I don’t want to give away the premise. I haven’t seen it written before, and I don’t want someone else to grab it first. Normally I don’t worry about that sort of thing because we all tell stories differently, but this premise burns.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your newest book available?
Michelle Weidenbenner: I have a children’s chapter book series that will launch this summer about a seven-year-old girl who has to live with her eccentric grandma when her mom gets sick and her dad leaves to find a new job. I’m in the editing stages of rewriting a young adult supernatural novel (the one I mentioned above) that I wish was done yesterday. I wrote it five years ago, but had to wait in a long line for the editor I wanted to work with. She’s a ninja who will make my writing shine.

The Digital Ink Spot: Where can readers find you?
Michelle Weidenbenner: I enjoy FB because I like to connect on an emotional level with readers and friends. I enjoy listening to their fear, joys, and sorrows. It’s life. I want to be in the thick of it with them, cry with them and pray for them. https://www.facebook.com/mweidenbenner
Twitter feels like a bunch of people shouting about themselves. It isn’t about warm relationships. It feels cold to me. Nonetheless, you’ll find me here: Twitter: @MWeidenbenner1
I love to share writerly information at my blog: http://www.randomwritingrants.com Random Writing Rants. My books are at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Michelle-Weidenbenner/e/B00E21RMNG

The Digital Ink Spot: Why should people read your stories? What sets them apart from the rest?
Michelle Weidenbenner: My novels will take readers to new places where emotions run high. CACHE a PREDATOR will take readers geocaching for a while. If you don’t know what that is then you should read the book. It’s a fun sport. Well, most of the time, unless you find a body part in a cache box. SCATTERED LINKS takes readers to Russia and then to the states through the eyes of a young teenager who’s never learned how to love. Did you know some parents are trying to re-home their children? It’s true. Like pets. This book will give readers insight as to why this happens.

Interview with Carol Fragale Brill

The Digital Ink Spot was lucky enough to speak with Carol Fragale Brill, author of contemporary women's literature. We start the conversation with the question, Who are you as a writer and when did you start writing?

Carol Fragale Brill: I have loved stories ever since my parents read me Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Black Beauty at bedtime when I was five or six. I know Grimm’s may not seem like the stuff sweet dreams are made of, but mostly they read the ones about princesses being rescued by the prince. I started dreaming about writing a book when I was 20-something. It took me another 20 years to finally get started after reading Julia Cameron’s THE ARTIST WAY. The week after I finished the book’s twelve week course, I joined my first creative writing group. I often go back to the wonderful tools in THE ARTIST WAY—like morning pages, where you do a mind dump on paper to clear the cobwebs so the creative juices can flow, or an artist date, where you take yourself out to play to recharge your batteries.
I can’t remember if it is Julia Cameron, or Anne LaMott or Natalie Goldberg, but I heard one of them say writer’s block isn’t about being blocked, it’s about being empty. I try to remember that and do things that fill me up and rekindle my creativity—walking on the beach with my husband, reading women’s fiction, watching humming birds and dolphins.
One last tidbit about me as a writer. I keep a box of 96 crayons—a gift from my husband—on my desk. There’s a line in PEACE BY PIECE where the main character, Maggie says, “I never had a box of 64 crayons.” After reading that line in a very early draft, Jim bought me my box of 96—complete with the built-in sharpener. That green and yellow box is a constant reminder of his support, and I often skim through the box reciting the names of the colors when I need creative inspiration.
Oh, and I’m still a sucker for happily-ever-after love stories.

TDiS: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?

Carol Fragale Brill: My goal when I stared writing creatively was to write a book. Amazingly, I have now written and published two, PEACE BY PIECE and CAPE MAYBE. Most of my writing time is devoted to my novels, blog, and book reviews for New York Journal of Books, with a little time left over to write and publish the occasional short story. After writing and rewriting my novels many times over a 15 year period, self-publishing both in less than a year is a huge accomplishment for me.
In addition to getting great reviews on my novels, my favourite successes regarding shorter works include an excerpt from my newest novel, CAPE MAYBE being recognized by Poets and Writers as the Maureen Egen Prize first runner-up for fiction—so close! One of my writer friends referred to the prize as my best rejection to date.
My short story “Violets”, a reimagined excerpt from PEACE BY PIECE, was published in The Best of Philadelphia Stories after being voted a reader favourite.

TDiS: When is your newest book available?
Carol Fragale Brill: Both PEACE BY PIECE and CAPE MAYBE are available now in paperback and e-book. Tuesday May 20th until Sunday May 25th I’m running a countdown sale on CAPE MAYBE. Sales starts Tuesday at just 99¢.
Both CAPE MAYBE and PEACE BY PIECE are great beach reads, so here’s a chance to sample CAPE MAYBE just in time for Memorial Day and summer beach reading.
I am thrilled— and a little intimated—that many PEACE BY PIECE and CAPE MAYBE readers want sequels. It’s funny because from the day I started writing PEACE BY PIECE and CAPE MAYBE, I was always sure the stories ended where I ended them. Now, readers have me wondering if there’s more in store for Maggie, Thomas, and Izzie in PEACE BY PIECE, and Katie and Dennis et al in CAPE MAYBE.

TDiS: What sets your stories apart?
Carol Fragale Brill: What readers tell me sets my stories apart are realistic, well-rounded characters that they care about and that feel like real people they know. One of the hardest parts of crafting my novels was finding a balance between my characters’ strengths and flaws so that readers would relate to them.
PEACE BY PIECE – Maggie’s story about love in all its many forms—friendship, family, unshakable first love, step-parenting—all overshadowed by anorexia and bulimia.
CAPE MAYBE - Set in Victorian Cape May, CAPE MAYBE is Katie’s story of love and loss—of the memories, addictions, and secrets that haunt mothers and daughters— and the power of hard-earned hope.

Review: Salted Lithium: A Short Story by Karen Jung @TweetKarenJung

Salted Lithium: A Short Story (Red Shorts Series)

Summary: Peter is puzzled. How did he get into this situation? But more importantly how can he get out of it? His road trip with Lisa from London to Hastings leads him and the strange girl towards an unforeseen destination.

Review:  This is my introduction into Jung's writings and what a great job. It takes off like a rocket and quickly reveals that there is more here than you expect. Jung has to pack a lot of information in very little space of only 14 pages. It is a job well done. Please read it carefully, Jung drops clues like bread crumbs for the reader to pick up and follow to their secret destination. It pays off.
Small price with a big ending. Read it.

Interview with Dr. Madhukar Dama @drmdama

The Digital Ink Spot spoke with Dr. Madhukar Dama and asked that he introduce themselves to our readers.

Dr. Madhukar Dama: I was born in India and is an Assistant Professor by job, and a scientist and author by interest. After a career in drug discovery, I am now dedicated to research, and take pride in spreading awareness about the hidden dangers of things that we use daily but take for granted. Most importantly, the effects of human activities on our environment and wildlife, and hazards of indiscriminate use of pesticides and misuse of plastics. Microwave contamination of the atmosphere and hazards to a mobile phone user are my current interests.

The Digital Ink Spot: When is your book available?

Dr. Madhukar Dama: My book Mobile Phone Safety was published on 29 March 2014 and is available in both print and for kindle. The eBook version is available for free on the 16th and 17th of May, 2014.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer?

Dr. Madhukar Dama: I want to spread awareness about the health hazards of cell phones.

The Digital Ink Spot: And how are you going to go about that?

Dr. Madhukar Dama: My book explains why scientific studies are increasingly associating cell phone use with cancer, hearing loss, joint pains, infertility, impotence, accidents, behavioral problems, headaches, ringing ear, sleep disturbance, memory loss and so on. Every cell phone user is in danger, and needs to be aware of the health risks and understand the methods to protect oneself. MOBILE PHONE SAFETY, a first book explaining the hazards as well as protective measures and is labelled a must read for every cell phone user.

The Digital Ink Spot would like to thank Dr. Dama for taking the time to talk with us and sharing a little of his research. Dr. Madhukar Dama can be found on the Internet at the following links;

Interview with Jessica Hemingway @JessicaHemingwy

The Digital Ink Spot had a chance to interview Jessica Hemingway. We asked that she tell us a little about herself. This is what she had to share.

Jessica Hemingway: British born, I now live in New Zealand with my husband. I am the mother of two wonderful daughters.  I love traveling, and recently fell in love with the stunning scenery and colors of Utah.
A life long writer of letters to friends, family and pen pals, I discovered the world of fiction writing a few years ago when looking for a new challenge. Like many authors I've always loved to read: fiction, non-fiction, the label on the sauce bottle. You name it, I'd read it. I'm an eclectic reader, so I tend to write whatever takes my fancy rather than sticking to one genre. I won't travel anywhere without a book and like to have my next read lined-up before I finish the last page of my current book, but I rarely have more than one book on the go at once.
To unwind besides reading I sew, sketch and belly dance, or spends time chilling out with family and friends.

The Digital Ink Spot: What are you trying to accomplish as a writer? What is your latest story about?

Jessica Hemingway: I'm constantly trying to improve as a writer and explore ideas, feelings, and motivations. My latest publication, Whisper of Lightning  is about belly dancer, Jaz Sinclair, who inherits the family home when her mother dies in an accident. The house is a  veritable museum of artifacts collected by her great-grandparents on archaeological digs. While discussing plans to renovate with a builder they discover the whereabouts of a secret room. Determined to discover what lies behind the wall Jaz breaks through and releases evil beings from another realm seeking a treasure that will plunge the world into darkness. Only Jaz and her cat stand in their way.
It's a story filled with magic and mystery, and suitable for adults and young adults. It's available on Amazon, along with my other books: Consumed , The Beadmaker and Spirit of Obsession .

Review: The Basement by Chad P. Brown @chadbrown72

The Basement

Summary: On a dare from her best friends, Heather goes inside the town's haunted house, where Frank Blackwell killed his wife and then hung himself in the basement. But while in the house, Heather is confronted by a ghost from her past, her mother who died accidentally one year ago. Now, Heather must not only escape from the evil lurking inside the house, but from the demons of her own past.

Review: A quick little horror story. I liked that it started like so many ghost stories written before, then takes off down a road not expected. I think what is most scary is what we ourselves project from our own experiences and our own horrific past. This story encapsulates that premise. A young girl enters a house of horrors looking for what is there and learns that it is otherwise empty except for her personal demons that follow her in and she has no choice but to face them.
What really got me was the expected ending and then the unexpected twist to it. The author shows real creativity and innovation. Read it.

Review: Floor Four by A. Lopez Jr. @acehilink

Floor Four

Summary: ‘A loud bang was heard from above, scaring the boys. They shined their lights up the stairwell. The sounds of chains rattling on the floor stirred the dust above. Something or someone was up there. Doug, hiding his fear, took a couple of more steps up. Brandon and Kyle looked at him, their feet locked in place. They had no intention of going any further.’

A tale of horror with a twist of the Twilight Zone. The old, abandoned Saint Vincent Hospital is said to be haunted by the ghost of David Henry Coleman, the notorious serial killer, known as The Mangler. Coleman died on the fourth floor after being shot by police. For the three Jr. High boys, their curiosity gets the best of them as they explore the old hospital, despite ‘Old Man’ Jake’s warning. No one knew of Jake’s dark connection to the killer and the hospital. And now, on the anniversary of The Mangler’s death, a group of high school kids are planning a private party on the haunted fourth floor. Jake must keep everyone out and protect them from the true evil that lurks on Floor Four.

Review: Well written but not well executed. It flowed well and developed a good story but not an exciting story,  I was constantly hoping it would end soon. The latter story is better written than the former. I credit this to the rewrite and addition to the story whole. I compare this to a 80s style horror movie. But only the first part, after that it get more interesting but by that time I was looking earnestly for the end. The author is not a bad story teller. I only wish the style of writing was as consistent as the second part. I recommend passing on the story but checking out the author.
