Jacob loves Caitlin but he can't be with her. In a fit of rage he leaves town and finds himself drunk and wallowing in self pity miles from home. Surrounded by characters who are seedy and unkempt, he meets an old man who buys him a drink, and makes him a bet. This old man is the worst kind of company, devlish even... but he may not be the worst person Jacob will meet on his journey.
